Life Returns to Devastation Trail

This was taken at Volcano National Park, Hawaii 2-15-2006. "Devastation Trail" is the site of a volcanic eruption that destroyed all vegetation. New plant life is starting to emerge. I was shooting this in a misty rain, when the rainbow appeared. I scrambled like mad to find this composition before the rainbow disappeared. It disappeared anyway, because my circular polarizer eliminated it. Lesson learned, I removed the polariizer and got this shot. Fortunately, the rainbow hung around while I was doing all of this. f/22 1/8 sec ISO 100 10-22mm lens @ 12mm.
