Facing the Future
I took this photo of my daughter on the day of her graduation from Emory College on 5-16-2005. The university ceremony had just ended, and the college commencement ceremony was to follow. To help me find her, she called me on my cell phone, and she stood on one of the folding chairs so that she could be spotted above the crowd. I had my 75-300mm lens already mounted on my Canon 20D, so I told her to put down her cell phone so that I could take her photo. She beamed this smile of joyful exuberance and pride. As I looked through the viewfinder, I thought about about the infinite possibilities that lay before her. f/8 1/400 sec. ISO 400 75-300mm lens @300mm. Hand-held. Photo cropped, face lightened, surroundings darkened in Photoshop.
